What are the most common problems with check-in and label printers on Sunday Mornings?
If you are having label printer problems and feeling the sense of urgency, look at these 4 things first.
Problem: Not printing at all
- Make sure Pop-up blocker on check-in station is off (using Text-to-Check-in or tablets).
- Click to check-in on another device, and look in the top right hand corner of the address bar of the check-in station computer for little "blocker" icon.
- Click on it and select the option to allow pop ups. Note: you may have to check-in again for it to print.
- Make sure label printer destination is set right.
- In your normal Chrome icon (not the shortcut), login and start Check-in (Check-in > Start Check-in) with any check-in view.
- Select a person or family, and click Check-in on their family page. This opens the print screen dialog box (because it is NOT the shortcut).
- Click on the print dialog screen and choose the right label printer destination. Note: Sometime label printers are duplicated.
- Make sure the label printer is linked to the correct computer. If you are mobile we suggest putting stickers on label printers and computers to correctly match them. Label printer settings are specific to the printer even if they are the same make and model.
Problem: Labels are not printing correctly.
- Make sure paper size is correct.
- In your normal Chrome account (not the shortcut), login and start Check-in (Check-in > Start Check-in) with any check-in view.
- Select a person or family, and click Check-in on their family page. This opens the print screen dialog box (because it is NOT the shortcut).
- Click on the print dialog screen and choose "More settings".
- Make sure the paper size matches your labels.
- Once you print a good label, go back to using the Check-in shortcut.
- You may need a new label printer. Dymo printers in particular seem to have a shelf life and stop working after a few years. See our label printer recommendations article for replacement suggestions.
